Man Wanted in McDonald’s Shooting Mistaken for Beaver

A suspect wanted for shooting another man in the head outside a Northern Virginia McDonald’s retaurant is in custody following a 20-hour manhunt, authorities said.

Police found 28-year-old DeWayne A. Williams hiding behind the home of Dumfries resident Barbara Wolf around 4 p.m. Tuesday.

“I thought it was a beaver,” Wolf said. “I ran into the pantry and grabbed my broom so I could go get that beaver.”

She said she watched Williams run under her porch, at which point she called police.

Williams was charged with aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in commission of a felony in connection with Monday’s shooting in the 2800 block of Dale Boulevard in Woodbridge.

Williams’ accomplice, 31-year-old Jamie Lea Bowyer, turned herself into police several hours after Williams’ arrest.

Police say Williams shot someone known to him in the face following an “altercation” in the parking lot of a McDonald’s.

The victim, who managed to walk into the restaurant for help, is expected to recover.

Authorities say Williams and Bowyer then fled the scene.

Prince William County police used K-9 units, ground crews and helicopters in the search for Williams and Bowyer.
Police say the suspect, 28-year-old DeWayne A. Williams, ran from the scene and carjacked another person around Neabsco Mills Road and Dale Boulevard.

The carjacking victim, a 26-year-old man, told police that he was flagged down by a man he didn’t know. Police say Williams opened the victim’s passenger-side door, got into the vehicle and forced the driver to take him away from the area.

Williams later got out of the car and ran from the scene at Jefferson Davis Highway and Delaware Drive, police said.

Both Williams and Bowyer are being held without bond.
