Man Calls Cops to Report Hair in Burger, Gets Arrested Himself

A Bluffton man might have avoided jail last week if he had ordered his McDonald’s meal to go.

The 25-year-old called the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at about 9:45 p.m. Thursday after he found a black hair or string in his burger at the McDonald’s on U.S. 278 in Bluffton, according to an incident report. The man said he wanted to document the incident so the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control could shut the restaurant down, the report said.

When deputies arrived, they learned the man had an outstanding warrant from the Bluffton Police Department for malicious injury to property. He is accused of breaking a $200 window at his former home on Simmonsville Road in February during an argument with the residents, who are his family members, according to Lt. Joe Babkiewicz.

Police arrested the man on the warrant at the McDonald’s and transported him to the Beaufort County Detention Center, the report said. He was released Friday on a $2,130 personal recognizance bond, according to court records.

In the Sheriff’s Office report, a deputy noted that there was a black hair or string on the burger. The man was told to take up the matter with the restaurant’s management or its corporate office, the report said.
