A teenager has been arrested after a man was seriously injured when he was hit by a car in a suspected race attack at a McDonald’s car park.
The 19-year-old was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and failing to report a road traffic collision.
He remained in police custody for questioning.
The victim, who was with friends, had earlier rowed with another group of people.
As the second group left in two cars, one vehicle drove straight at him. He was left with severe fractures to his legs, body and face.
Police are investigating whether there was a racial motive to the attack.
It is understood that racist remarks may have been made during the argument.
The victim is Asian and the suspected attacker and his friends – a man and two women – are white.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident at McDonald’s in China Gardens in Bolton at 11.40pm on Friday.
The man was being treated in hospital and was in a serious but stable condition.
His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
Police plan to seize CCTV as part of their investigation in the next few days.
