Inmate Escapes, Gets Nabbed at Albany McDonald’s

An inmate who walked away off his job May 19 was found Monday night at McDonalds in Albany and is back in Parish Prison, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Joseph Pomares, 42, 9174 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, walked away on May 19 from his job at the Sheriff’s Office’s Central Substation, 13016 Gurney Road. He had been arrested April 5 on counts of unauthorized use of an access card and illegal possession of stolen things, to which has been added a count of simple escape, prison records show.

Soon after Pomares was located at the McDonalds, located on La. 43 near Interstate 12 he fled, sparking a short chase, Hicks said. A sheriff’s deputy working with the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force made the arrest, she said.
