Man Poses as Girl Online to Attract Young Lesbian; Gets Busted at McDonald’s

A Tukwila man is behind bars after allegations he posed online as a lesbian teenager to trick a girl into sharing nude photos of herself, then tried to extort sex from her.

King County prosecutors claim Thomas Weckesser threatened to post sexually explicit photos of the 17-year-old if she didn’t have sex with him. The girl purportedly sent Weckesser, 46, the photos, believing he was an 18-year-old woman.

Prosecutors contend Weckesser had been trolling the Internet as a woman for some time to obtain sexually explicit photos. According to charging papers, Weckesser admitted to duping at least one other girl into sending him sexually explicit photos of herself.

In the incident which led to charges, the 17-year-old contacted police on Monday, minutes after Weckesser began sending her threatening messages, a King County Sheriff’s Office detective said in court papers.

Speaking with investigators, the girl said a user who claimed to be an 18-year-old woman contacted her through the site earlier in January.

“Erica” and the 17-year-old exchanged messages through another service, where “Erica” pushed for a sexual relationship and sent the girl sexually explicit photos. Noting that the alleged victim gave her true age on her online profile, the detective said she ultimately sent nude photos of herself to “Erica.”

They had been exchanging messages for several days when “Erica” sent the girl a photo of male genitalia and explained that they were his, the detective continued. According to charging papers, the correspondent – since identified by police as Weckesser – then threatened to post the photos the girl had sent him if she didn’t meet him for sex.

Working with police, the girl set up that meeting at a McDonald’s restaurant near the Tukwila Transit Center.

Weckesser told the girl he was worried he would get “busted” and put off their meeting for more than two hours before arriving, the detective said in court papers. He was arrested outside the McDonald’s and initially claimed he was going to work.

According to charging papers, Weckesser’s phone displayed text messages the girl had sent while with police. Weckesser was taken to the SeaTac police station, where he is alleged to have admitted to posing as a woman online, asking the girl for nude photos and then threatening her.

“He said that he had been communicating with many different women, including a few other underage girls,” the detective said in court papers. Weckesser is alleged to have identified an Idaho girl by name.

Now charged with extortion and communication with a minor for immoral purposes in King County, Weckesser is also being held on an outstanding warrant from Stevens County, where he is charged with stalking and harassment. He remains jailed on $90,150 bail.
