OTTAWA COUNTY, MI — A 17-year-old from Grand Rapids who allegedly stole an iPad from a young teen at a Georgetown Township McDonald’s restaurant didn’t have much time to enjoy the high-tech Apple device.
Police tracked him down not long after and found the underaged friends he was with were intoxicated. He’ll be charged with larceny from a person; they were handed minor in possession citations.
A 14-year-old boy called police from a McDonald’s restaurant at 1865 Baldwin St. around 7:45 p.m. Sunday, April 20, and said an older teen had tried to pick a fight with him. As they argued, the older teen grabbed the younger teen’s iPad and fled, police learned.
Responding Ottawa Sheriff’s deputies located the 17-year-old not far away, at the intersection of Astronaut Avenue and Miede Street. With him were a group of intoxicated underage friends.
The friends were slapped with MIPs. The 17-year-old was taken to the Ottawa County Jail. He is expected to be arraigned Monday.
