Drug Bust Leads to Car Chase at Houston McDonald’s

Two men are facing serious charges after a drug bust turned into a chase through northwest Harris County Wednesday morning.

Police said the chase started at a Chevron gas station and McDonald’s on the North Freeway near Rankin Road around midnight.

According to reports, undercover officers spotted a suspected drug transaction. When the agents got out of their car to arrest the suspects, officers said both men took off in separate vehicles.

“One vehicle led the officers on a short pursuit and stopped,” said Lieutenant Larry Crowson with the Houston Police Department. “The second vehicle led the officer on a little bit of a longer pursuit, where he crashed into an apartment building sign.”

Even after crashing the car, police said the man did not give up and ran into the apartment complex on Cypress Station.

Investigators said that man was eventually located with the help of a Harris County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit.

Apparently a woman was inside the man’s car at the time, where she remained during the incident; at this point, police said she is not facing any charges.

The two men, however, were arrested and both face felony evading charges.

“The driver of the first vehicle was charged with felony evading,” said Lt. Crowson. “The driver of the [second] vehicle was charged with felony evading and aggravated assault on a police officer because at one point during the chase he actually rammed into the patrol car following him.”

Police said they did not find any drugs in either car, but officers believe they were thrown out at some point during the chase.

Neither suspect’s name was immediately released.
